Get Ready With Me for an Indian Wedding

It was my friend's wedding last Sunday and I was so super excited about it! I wore an Anarkali from my collection :)

It was a small wedding of about 250-300 people, and what I absolutely loved about it was, that the Bride and Groom had an opportunity to interact with each and every guest! They were both pretty chilled out and looked so happy and calm! Will ask her if she can send me pictures, she wore a beautiful red lehenga from Asiana Couture (Chandni Chowk) and her Makeup Artist was done by a girl from Toni and Guy.

I shot this little video while getting ready, doing my makeup and all! Have a look : http://youtu.be/KfM4uYZB-pw

Make sure to watch it in 1080p !

Dummy guide to Makeup for the Bride-to-Be

Before I entered college I knew zilch about Makeup. I had put on kajal just a couple of times in 11th resulting in my brother telling me that my eyes have grown mustaches :/

4 years of college taught me basic makeup skills, add another couple of years of working under a designer and I could do full makeup in under 15 min while driving a car. It wasn't until I got engaged that I realized  I just know one way of putting makeup. So I did what any girl does, I YouTubed.

I know a lot of girls who have never ever had makeup on. If you are one of them and are too scared and confused, here are video's that are extremely basic! If you know nothing watch these two videos and your good to go!

Makeup Artist! What? How? What is this?

Those of you who have been reading the blog would know I picked the first Makeup Artist I liked and I really don't regret it. I actually do recommend her to a lot of people, love the way she gives complete personal attention, helped me research styles and agreed to travel any where in Delhi/NCR (she travels to Chandigarh also sometimes)

The best part of the makeup was I got it done around 6pm on the wedding day and it stayed exactly the same till  6am  when I finally got around taking it off. The lipstick faded a tiny bit just before Phera's so that's around 2am but then I did eat a LOT.

I did however, miss out on the journey of finding a perfect MUA.

Please see the following articles from fellow bloggers to get yourself updated on MUA's! Its the one topic I cant help a lot on.

Grooming the Groom

I just went to a wedding recently and the groom looked like he had just washed his face, put on the sherwani and he was ready! While most grooms also try and shave just before dressing up, this one was a little too extreme, he had the end of the day stubble look. While that works perfectly for a date after a long days work, for your wedding even YOU the Groom needs to look their best!!

chocolate facial anyone?!

Pre-wedding :

A few months before take out some 'me' time.

1. Go to a salon get a facial, manicure, pedicure and hair spa done. Repeat it every month! ideally you should start asap, but make sure you are on it atleast 3 months before!!

2. Wash your face daily at night!

3. Ask your mother/sister to make you some homemade packs or atleast uptan, Ubtan is the best way to improve your skin and de-tan, plus its the least embarrassing one to ask for.
Don't know how to make one?? Read it here, along with other home solutions (works for both boy and girl skins)

4. For Dark Knees and elbows just rub some sugar and lemon on it. (Put sugar in a bowl, squeeze half a lemon and then using the lemon as a loofah dip it in the mixture and rub it on knees or elbows)

5. Sunscreen is your best buddy!! Save the tanned look for post honeymoon. Every single morning put on your sun screen. For Indian Skin SPF 30-50 works well.
(There is an SPF 100 from Lotus, not sure if its useful or what, have you used it?!)

Week of the wedding :
Get your teeth cleaned from a dentist, how ever pretty they might be get them cleaned from a dentist.

3 days before functions :
1. Get a facial done , not on the day of an event but 3 days before!
2. Manicure-Pedicure
3. Hair Spa
4. Body Polish ( this is to make your skin look nice, shiny and healthy)
5. Body packs
6. If your tooo hairy then a bleach and waxing or shaving would be good too...ask your bride-to-be

On the Day of the wedding :
Since you'll be getting makeup done later in the day its best to not let anyone put haldi on your face. (and yes you will be getting makeup done)
Go for a proper shave
Get Groom makeup done
sherwani's patka draped and viola your ready!!!

Groom Makeup

What is it??
No they won't put lipstick on you! But what they will do is make your skin look amazing. Groom makeup majorly consists of a proper foundation. The Best kind is an Airbrush makeup or an HD makeup, depending upon your skin type.

Aashmeen Munjal
Is it expensive??
Compared to Bridal makeup its pretty cheap. Starting from Rs. 5,000 for Airbrush makeup done from top names like Aashmeen Munjal. To give you an idea, Bridal Airbrush Makeup from such star names starts from Rs. 20,000. So yes its cheap.

Where can I get it done??
So far I only know Aashmeen Munjal who does this, and I have seen a groom who got it done from her and he looked great. On the day of the wedding I could sense there is something different about him he looks more 'prince-charming' type, but thought of it as a pre-wedding glow (do guys get that ?!) it was quite later he told me he had makeup on. So CIB certainly vouches for Aashmeen Munjal.

I have called up Lakme and Vidya Tikari both says they don't do groom makeup.

To get more information its easiest to ask your bride-to-be to help you out on this, her makeup artist might be able to suggest somebody. Or ask your local salons.

Readers if you know anyone who does groom makeup than please help and comment below.

Why should I get it done??
Remember you'll be standing next to your dazzling princess. She has been working towards this ever since you popped the question. For her, be the perfect other half.

New Bahu's Makeup Box Essentials!!

When I went Makeup Trousseau shopping how naive I was. Although I got all essentials to get me started they were still a young girls list of things. As soon as I was asked to get dressed for the first outing post marriage I realized all those pretty pinks and nude lipsticks worked no where.

If you are like me, and prefer your skin the way it is don't be mistaken into thinking you will not be using a lot of makeup. However cool your in-laws are and they won't say it but they would still love for you to dress up and look like the 'nayi-dulhan' at least the initial few months.

So here is a LIST of New Bahu's Makeup MUST-HAVE!
Brides-to-be make sure you have these!!

1. FOUNDATION

Well I got this one correct during trousseau shopping!
Get one of day and one for night.

Day : Get a BB creme , they have enough coverage so your skin looks great and is not so heavy and you don't feel as if you have disappeared under layers.

Which one...ANY, most BB cremes are pretty good. I personally use Garnier these days.

For more details you can read a comparison of Garnier, Maybelline and Deborah BB creams at Peach&Blush here

Night : MAC, Love it! Best out of all. If its out of your budget I would strongly recommend Loreal as well. Not the powder one the creams. I don't like powder foundation some how you can't get an even coverage.

2. CONCEALER
I don't use concealer so I am probably not the best person to advice on it. But for Quick fixes, dark circles, unexpected pimples I use Maybelline BB stick.

Can be used as a bb day foundation as well.

3. BLUSH
I used to own one blush. Pink in color and that's it. I thought it would get me through. Well thankfully the persuasive MAC girl got me to buy a reddish one too!

Blush Basic : You need a minimum of 3!

Pink
Red
Peach

Not sure if Peach works for you, it does! I have quite recently discovered peach as a color for blushes, I did know about it earlier ofcourse but never considered using it.

After travelling almost every fortnight since the wedding I am tanned badly! So bad that I hate looking at the mirror (says the girl who was so self obsessed that I have mirrors in my room every where).

Errr..how does that connect to peach blushes?! What I discovered was if your looking for a slight blush, like you get post exerciser, the darker your skin tone the better peach blushes looks on you and if you more towards pale then pink does the same effect and peach becomes a color blush.

Colorbar Coral Craving

4. EYE SHADOW

You would probably get a LOT of colors gifted to you by your in-laws in the makeup kit. So for this one alone its better to stick to the basics. Ofcourse do get a nice color pallet on your own, you can never have enough! I have 3 color pallets of around 12 colors each and yet I am at times lost. So the more the better.

L'oreal chrome Shine Beigh Simmer is my quick fix basic
This is the exact effect that you get.

To Person in the picture, Took it off google , if you have an issue let me know. Also tell me which camera you have.

I also like Revlon 'Romantic Girl' Love the finish you get on the eye.

5. EYE LINER, MASCARA and KAJAL

Eye Liner : L'oreal Super Liner is super black! That is why I love it. If your not comfortable with liquid liners try this one! Its the only one which I can wear without my eyeliner going crazy all over the place.
Mascara :

I will not even explain why, just go and buy it
Recently discovered the goodness of this one. Gives you a nice curly effect and no clumping!. Is waterproof. Maybelline says it gives you an effect as if your wearing false eye lashes, I don't really think so.Best way is to use the yellow one first and then this one, so ya two mascara's but great effect!

Kajal :

Incolor

Although I have lost mine since a couple of months and havn't brought a new one, been using maybelline colossal kajal. That's good to , a little bit of spills but great otherwise. Would still consider Incolor better but Maybelline is a good substitute too.

6. LIPSTICKS

I got so many pretty pinks and lovely peaches which have been used only twice. Red lipsticks girls RED that is what a married women needs!

Doesn't mean you go all aunty brownish-maroon. Here are two great New-Bride colors that will work

NYX Absolute Red
Love it! a very modern red! plus it stays on for a long time
Loreal Infallible Le Rouge Lipstick
829 Resilient Resin
This is a bit aunty-maroon-brown-turned-elegant-modern

7. NAILPAINTS

Pre-marriage I had all sorts of colorbar bright Orange, wacky greens, Loud Fushia's and now they lie in my closet gathering dust.

I don't change my nailpaints a lot so I try using the ones that go with everything. My current fav. Bridalish paints are :

loreal red tote

Loreal 403

Loreal 580
Loreal 350 is similar too, a little more bronzy

I just realized that I like all Loreal colors....hmm....must buy other brands....

8. SINDOOR

I have Lotus and Lakme, but both of them are maroon and I don't like the maroon ones, they get blackish in a while. So I got a nice tomato red!

My Wedding Update : In double digits now!

We have entered double digit and both sides are on definite action mode.

Shopping, cards, decor finalization, everything is no longer on the research tab its down to hard core finalization.

My Pre-bridal starts soon. Exercise (Yoga) is more of a routine now.

Million tiny details are left, need to get all my regular stuff (shampoo, toothbrush, etc. etc.) organised.

Have to find the perfect nail paint for the wedding. ( any suggestions)

Have to start collecting my makeup stuff from the list written here  http://www.crazyindianwedding.com/2012/08/list-of-makeup-trousseau.html

Still have to find a baju band, have gotten pretty much everything on the 16 singar list
http://www.crazyindianwedding.com/2012/08/modern-brides-16-singar.html

*phew* so much tiny things to do, I guess all these little stuff will go on till the wedding day.

By the way did I tell you guys I am banned from my honeymoon destination decision. I ended up changing the place every few hours, so now the whole trip is a surprise for me. Which I guess is good in a way, one less thing to worry about :P , only know I dont know what to shop....hmmm...
