Wedding Event 6.1 : The Big Fat Indian Wedding part 1

Since this event was huge it is hard to put it in just one post..so sit down relax and enjoy reading..

Decoration and Caterer

We sat down with the decorator and Caterer more than 6 months before the wedding. Having the whole family there had its advantages. With all of us present to discuss what kind of decoration we wanted and what kind of event we expected it was a pleasant surprise when we found out we had a common vision.

And seeing that vision being brought to life was probably the best wedding gift...

None of us had expected it to be so huge, even when we discussed what we wanted we just told our decorator our wildest dream wedding, the whole big fat Indian wedding package, all royal and Indian-y.

He sent us drawings of how the stage and entrance would look, after going through it all we thought "this is probably how it will feel like, he will construct something similar." Because to create what he had sent us on an empty field was something next to impossible.

As for food the caterer is an old family friend and had catered at most of our family event before, his paneer is to die for! so when he gave us the menu we just told him to do what he wants.

Everything else from how the tree's would be decorated, what should be placed where, every details was discussed in details till the last day!

2 days before the wedding I remember calling up the caterer and telling him that I wanted cotton candy at the wedding and if it wasn't to much trouble and he made that possible too.

Wedding is an extensive project on its own and needs to be followed up till the last day!

The day of the wedding we reached around noon at the venue and to our surprise we could see our dream turn to reality...

Entertainment

My dad was very clear that the wedding should be a reflection of our culture and should keep the guest entertained at all time. After all only few people are actually interested in the bride and groom the rest are just there for the food and because social etiquette demands them to be. I know it sounds bad to the bride who demands all attention on her D-day but its true.

Our Wedding took place in a mandir complex and hence recorded 'filmy' songs weren't aloud, so no DJ. This infact started as a road block but ended up being a advantage because it intrigued our imagination and forced us to think.

We called in a Bangra troop, Rajisthani dancers and shahanai players.

When people entered the wedding they were greeted by Live Shahanai players, as they entered the main wedding area there was a jugal bandi going on between Rajisthani dancers and bangra troop. In between there was a dhol wala playing in the grounds.

There was a fire show, a rajisthani dancer dancing with matki's on her head, a khulhad ki chai wala roaming around.

Pagdi wala

We called in a pagdi wala to tie padgdi for all men of the house. So before the baraat came everyone had matching padgi.

How it Felt to be a Bride: Word by Word, Moment by Moment

Wedding File 3 : Tilak

We were late! Very late! 

Everything was in line, we were ready and perfectly scheduled. There was a tiny pooja in the morning something we thought would be over within an hour max.

How wrong we were....

Apparently pooja of the lagan patrika is suppose to be VERY important and it didn't help that the panditji was a very senior one and he wouldn't take any shortcut! 

The pooja put our schedule back an hour. My makeup artist had to wait and when I finally got time to get ready for the evening her son's school called 

 "he has been in a fight.......hurt his head....hospital.....6 stitches!"

That is all I heard, That is all I needed to hear! 

Although I was ofcourse worried about that 12 year old boy but the thought of having to manage on my own for such an event made me tremble.

While my makeup artist tried to sort things out, my lehengha was being draped and OMG such a heavy lehenga it was! Somehow we tied it but it wasn't as perfect as the salesman at Frontier tied it.

Things do have a way of sorting themselves out in the end....

The groom side was late as well so we actually arrived a couple of minutes before them! 

My makeup artist (hats off to her) after a glass of cold water calmed down, got her father to take care of her son. Did my makeup perfectly made sure I was completely happy with my drape before she left.

That doesn't mean bloopers of the day ended there, everyone did forget me in the car....

 Lehenga :

Lehenga was from Frontier Bazaar, Karol Bagh. In the range of 70k on sale, otherwise its around 90k.

The major challenge with this lehenga was that it had to follow the one I wore at my engagement and I would be wearing my bridal one just 2 days after this. So it had to be better than engagement and not similar to the bridal one. It had to be noticeable in a big gathering, the event was so planned that we would be among guests instead of on the stage so it had to be striking even at a distance...people should be able to identify the bride after all....

 Makeup and Hair:

Hair for me was not perfect, it was too high. However my makeup artist justified that she had to for the maata patti...well since everyone else liked it I guess I am ok with it them, just I had a different picture in mind....

Dance :

My surprise dance performance was a shock for all! including the boy..haha...I don't really dance a lot in front of family and had secretly been practicing with my sisters. The look of the boys face was priceless!!

Songs : Chalka Chalka re, Dheemey Dheemey Gaon and chudi bhi zid pay aayi hai

And then the boy pulled me up for a song as well...

Jewelry :

Necklace and earring were from Tanishq, one of the last jewelry we picked and the only colored gold I liked.

Hair accessories were brought randomly while searching for latkans for my blouses.

Matta Patti from the only artificial jewellry shop I liked Om Sons at Lajpat.

We did considered a few candid photographers but somehow stuck to anjalis.....even if you don't have a famous candid photographer it doesn't mean you can't get 'candid' pictures!

Wedding File 1 : How it all began... Engagement

We call it the wedding year instead of a wedding day because the first time the marriage proposal came up was 1st of Jan 2012 and now as the year turns to an end I look back.....

This blog has been pretty much more advised based than personal however since many readers do love to know the real picture behind the words for the next few post its all about how the events turned out...

CLOTHES :

The engagement happened within 2 weeks of the final 'yes' and the first thing I did once the engagement date was finalized was to go to Frontier Raas. Not having time in my hand meant that I had no chance to experiment, I did however peek into Roshans and Ushak maal in South Ex. but I knew I will defiantly find something at Frontier and I did!

After looking at 30-40 lehengha's, trying on 10-15 of them and sitting there for 3 hours ( ! ) I finally found something appropriate.

MAKEUP :

As for makeup, my cousin had recently gotten married and my bhabhi's makeup artist had done an amazing job. She has been able to make her look pretty and girlish unlike few which make the bride look old and aunty-ish. I am a no-makeup makeup girl and was more than happy when she got the makeup right for the occasion.

PHOTOGRAPHY:

Photography was an issue right upto the end. I wasn't much informed back then on the 'famous' candid photographers and the only one we came across was too expensive.

 Lost and confused we went to the only place we knew, the place where we used to get our passport pictures from!

Our final decisions was even if we dont get a great photographer atleast we will have memories of that day.

When the pictures and the video came out no one could be more surprised than us! Each and every picture was clicked beautifully. My video has been the most amazing and loved among all. They gave us memories which probably a candid photographer wouldn't.

They ended up covering my wedding too and it was then we saw how wrong we judged them. They are actually VERY professional and every single event was covered to perfection.

BEHIND THE SCENE :

1. Since we were suppose to reach before the boy side we had everything planned accordingly. however my makeup artist got stuck in a traffic jam and we were delayed by half n hour...the result we reached just 5 minutes before them! and I had to run to hide!

2. I wasn't suppose to attend the first event so I was in a room hidden from view, but I did have a small opening from where I could peek out from to see whats going on!

3. I had decided the menu so I knew there will be mini pizza's out there I got my brother to send in some while I was sitting inside. Plus during the event everytime my sister's would take any snack they formed a semi circle around me and feed me a bite each so no one could see! that way I tasted almost everything I asked for!

4. While sitting down for lunch I was worried how I would eat with so many people's attention on me but my mausi gave me confidence and told me to eat and not think of anything or anyone since she couldn't during her wedding events because she was conscious and still regrets that, so I eat and enjoyed! advice to all brides-to-be: Remember to eat properly at all your events, no one is going to tell you not to eat and don't let there be a memory of you not eating and wishing that you did!


What followed post that event was the formation of this blog....so this was just like a pre-sequel....back soon with other events....
